The Weymouth Bridge

With Hurricane Dorian just past, I want to thank all the first-responders and utility personnel who were out there fixing the aftermath of the storm. While we were inconvenienced by losing power, internet and cell service, it certainly made me appreciate these modern conveniences and how much I have come to take them for granted.

June - The weekends are getting busier and July 1st is coming fast. Before then we celebrate Fathers’ Day (June 16) weekend with a brunch, ATV appreciation, kite flying and golfing specials. May ! The humming birds have arrived. It must be spring! It has been a busy first half of May so I’m sure there will be more on the calendar soon. We do have a Mini Giant Bingo and a Jazz Ensemble on Sunday, for this weekend, and the Watoto Choir performing at SMBA on the 24th. Garage Sales are starting - with the first being a junk in the trunk fundraiser in aid of Relay for Life, on the 25th at the Digby Curling Club. April - Easter is next weekend and the libraries have put together a number of fun things to do for various ages. They are also celebrating Canadian Film Day so each is showing a different Canadian film. Besides the Easter Services, some churches are providing Easter Egg hunts, the Legion is hosting Kitchen Parties and Meat Draws and we have Bonded Stock appearing for a benefit and then a Spring Concert at the end of the month. As we move towards Christmas, things quieten down and there are fewer events on our calendars.

November - Winter has arrived, and Christmas is not far, so there are lots of craft and bake sales on the calendars (4 in November alone). To keep fit you can join the indoor walking, open gym, public skating or soccer baseball. There are two music events and a movie night to keep the mind active and DARC is providing transport for shopping Halifax (book soon). The second half of August is still full of good things. Two 4-day events are the Digby County Exhibition in Bear River and the Wharf Rat Rally in Digby. Tide Kite festival is all day on August 19 and the libraries in Digby and Weymouth have events every week. Music on the Sissiboo only runs in August but the Weymouth teas continue into September. July has heated up, the calendar is bursting! Cherry Carnival in Bear River, Farmers’ & Artisans’ markets in Digby and Belliveau’s Cove, a Weymouth wide yard sale, plenty of library events, music on the Sissiboo and Weymouth Teas are all on now. Summer is coming! June has lots to get out and do, and July is also filling up nicely! With Canada Day on the horizon you will have to do some planning to fit it all in. The weather is warming up, the litter has been picked up, the calendars are filling up, the yard sales are booming.
