The summer concert series are winding up, so if you still want to catch some summer evening music, get out and do it. Weymouth, Digby and Annapolis Royal all feature local artists.

Jul 2 Weymouth Library Art Exhibition: A Legacy of Textiles

Weymouth Library exhibits creations made by members of the Weymouth Makers group. They feature a variety of textile techniques. This exhibit celebrates craftsmanship, tradition, and the passing of skills through generations. This exhibit carries more than just fibres. It carries stories, memory, and culture. It connects to both the past and the present. This exhibit is on display during open hours in July and August.

Sat Aug 22 The Final Recordings of an Almost Extinct Bird

7:30pm King’s Theatre, Annapolis Royal. Adults $40. “Final Recordings” is where TEDTalk, sob story, and cottagecore collide. Fred has a lot on his mind. The origins of the universe, for starters. The fabric of space-time, too. The formation of the Earth, plate tectonics, the fossil record, gravitational waves, dark matter, winding valley roads, campfires, pottery cafes—the list goes on and on. There’s also the matter of the giant salty egg, the man in the comfy blue chair, and the burning question: “Is this good? What I’m doing? With my time?”

7pm King’s Theatre, Annapolis Royal. Documentary. G. Adults $11.95. Fiercely independent 90-year-old Agatha Bock lives alone on her ancestral farm. Despite health challenges, she defiantly tends to her land, cultivating heirloom seeds passed down through generations. Employing antiquated techniques, Agatha plants and harvests her expansive field of watermelons, beans, flowers, herbs, and vegetables entirely by hand. Without a car, cell phone, running water, or even a functioning landline, Agatha’s meditative processes and daily rituals form a vivid counterpoint to the rapid pace of contemporary life. Made intentionally with sensory sensitive viewers in mind, the film carves out a (mostly) calm space in a chaotic world.

Sun Aug 30 Once Upon A Time In A Cinema

6pm King’s Theatre, Annapolis Royal. Film, Comedy/Drama PG. $11.95 Adults ONCE UPON A TIME IN A CINEMA is set in a small-town cinema during one eventful Friday night screening from hell. Over the course of one evening, the film follows the travails of beleaguered cinema owner Earl Clancy (Colin Morgan) as he faces a myriad of disasters, any one of which could sink him. Drawing from writer/director David Gleeson’s own experience growing up in a family of cinema owners where his father’s 78-year career marked the longest in the cinema business in Ireland, if not the world, this film is a love letter to a peculiarly Irish cinema experience, which was as much about connecting with people as it was about the movie.

After an eager and flattering young admirer appears on his doorstep, Saxberger is beckoned into a coterie of twentysomething admirers who anoint him as a rediscovered genius. Intoxicated by the attention — and by the alluring presence of Gloria, the group’s “tragic heroine” — Saxberger gradually reckons with the authenticity of his newfound poetic circle. This thoughtful, witty film is a wistful yet unromantic look at a lost idea of downtown New York.

Please join us for an afternoon to celebrate the continued cultural and language revitalization of L’sitkukewaq (the people of L’sitkuk/Bear River First Nation).
