Jul 2 Weymouth Library Art Exhibition: A Legacy of Textiles

Weymouth Library exhibits creations made by members of the Weymouth Makers group. They feature a variety of textile techniques. This exhibit celebrates craftsmanship, tradition, and the passing of skills through generations. This exhibit carries more than just fibres. It carries stories, memory, and culture. It connects to both the past and the present. This exhibit is on display during open hours in July and August.

Mon Jul 27 – 30 Dance Camp for Youth

10am – 2pm Daily King’s Theatre, Annapolis Royal. Ages 7-12. $200+hst. 5 days of creation and rehearsal, followed by a show on stage for the community. Dance styles include bellydance, bhangra, bollywood, flamenco, salsa, hip hop, break dance, jazz, ballet and more. There will be a performance on Friday July 31 at 2pm at Kings Theatre.

Wed Aug 12 The Audience

6pm King’s Theatre, Annapolis Royal. Stage to Screen, PG Adults $18.95. Helen Mirren plays Queen Elizabeth II. For 60 years, Queen Elizabeth II met with each of her 12 prime ministers in a private weekly meeting. This meeting is known as The Audience. From Winston Churchill to Margaret Thatcher and David Cameron, the Queen advised her prime ministers on matters both public and personal. Through these private audiences, we see glimpses of the woman behind the crown and witness the moments that shaped a monarch.

2pm Admiral Digby Museum, 95 Montague Row, Digby. Digby native Tom Haight will speak on his personal and patriotic account of life in service to Canada and to humanity. (1966-2007).

Wed Aug 26 Agatha’s Almanac

7pm King’s Theatre, Annapolis Royal. Documentary. G. Adults $11.95. Fiercely independent 90-year-old Agatha Bock lives alone on her ancestral farm. Despite health challenges, she defiantly tends to her land, cultivating heirloom seeds passed down through generations. Employing antiquated techniques, Agatha plants and harvests her expansive field of watermelons, beans, flowers, herbs, and vegetables entirely by hand. Without a car, cell phone, running water, or even a functioning landline, Agatha’s meditative processes and daily rituals form a vivid counterpoint to the rapid pace of contemporary life. Made intentionally with sensory sensitive viewers in mind, the film carves out a (mostly) calm space in a chaotic world.

Sat Sep 5 Jackson-Wilson Quartet

7:30pm King’s Theatre, Annapolis Royal. Live Music. Adults $30. Jackson/Wilson Quartet is the combined forces of Juno Award winning trombonist Andrew Jackson, and Four time Music Nova Scotia award- winning guitarist Sam Wilson. Together they have been exploring the interplay of trombone and guitar, honing their musical chemistry since 2014. Joined by bassist Gabriella Ciurcovich, and drummer Caito MacDonald, audiences can expect a wide variety of sounds, from original music, jazz classics, and familiar pop hits.

Wed Sep 9 Hadestown: The Musical

7pm King’s Theatre, Annapolis Royal. Film, musical. Adults $11.95. The live theater capture of the hit musical HADESTOWN, which won eight Tony Awards in 2019 including Best Musical and the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, featuring the five original principals of the Broadway company. The genre-defying new musical blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz to reimagine a sweeping ancient tale. Following two intertwining love stories — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone —HADESTOWN invited audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back.

Sun Sep 13 Ocean Kin and Other Stories

6pm King’s Theatre, Annapolis Royal. Shadow Puppetry. Adults $30. Ocean Kin, created by Jeighk Koyote, is a 45-minute long poetic shadow show contemplating our relationship to body and self inspired by the ecology of the sea otter. Three performers animate plexi-glass puppets, 3D sculptural props and projected illustrations behind a screen using flashlights and an overhead projector that is both mechanically complex and visually rich. The performance carries a loose narrative through words and an ethereal soundscape created by Halifax musician, Alyson Randles.

An off-the-cuff invitation in a Charlottetown hotel bar, a shared stage in a Canso rink, and a mutual love for questionable jokes…award-winning performers Kim Dunn and Terra Spencer paired up for a run of intimate shows off the beaten path.
